L’embellie – This is going to be a special restaurant to me for a few reasons. First of all this was the dinner that my then boyfriend took me to after asking me to marry him in Nantes. Secondly, it was a really delicious meal. One of my future in-laws said they wouldn’t eat there because they didn’t like the decor, which is minimalist and clean. I also don’t trust anyones opinion but my own when eating food, especially if you’re judging the food by interior design…
We started with a glass of champagne and were brought the amuse of sautéed razor clam with a local vinegar which was delicious and a small glass of carrot and tupenbourg (?) soup. They do have a well priced Menu, but we chose a la carte because I wanted more oysters and the whole pigeon. We shared the oysters and fois gras, both were as one would expect from a fine dining restaurant – fresh and clean tasting. The only thing I didn’t care for was the white wine gelée, it didn’t really add anything to the fois in my opinion, but I think a lot of restaurants are doing this right now. We also shared the plats, ris de veau and pigeon. Both were very good, and I was glad I got the whole pigeon otherwise I don’t know how much meat you would have to eat otherwise!
The chocolate dessert my fiancé had was a chocolate fondant – can’t go wrong there. But I’d say my cafe gourmand won in the end, a little bit of everything…including chocolate. All in all, a really nice evening with good service and a calm dinning room – perfect for our engagement dinner.
